Gala Advice for Parents

🏊🏼‍♀️ Arrive early. Leisure centre car parks are very small compared with the amount of swimmers arriving for a gala. You may have to park somewhere else and walk back to the venue.

🏊🏼‍♂️ Bring cash. You will need to pay an entry fee to spectate and most galas have a raffle. Pool hire costs are huge and this is a way that clubs can try and cover some of this. Please support them otherwise they wont be able to run.

🏊🏼‍♀️ It’s hot! Wear layers as pools are usually very warm. Some people even bring a fan!

🏊🏼‍♂️ Bring a drink and a snack. Open meets in particular are long.

🏊🏼‍♀️ Bring something to do. In open meets Ware won’t be in every race and there can be quite a lot of sitting around so if you get bored easily you may need something to do!

🏊🏼‍♂️ Battery pack may be needed for your phone!

🏊🏼‍♀️ Some programmes need to be printed before you go. Check details to see if you need to print anything. A pen also useful to write down times or keep score!

🏊🏼‍♂️Check your child has everything before they go including a change of clothes!

🏊🏼‍♀️ Be supportive. Your child may get a DQ and no matter what the age it is still horrible.

🏊🏼‍♂️Be encouraging as they will learn from this and get better!

🏊🏼‍♀️Enjoy yourself! Your children have worked really hard to get to this point and racing can be very exciting!

🏊🏼‍♂️ Finally if your kid is enjoying competing get more involved! The competition goes a lot quicker when you are poolside helping out!
