Wonderful County Championships for Ware SC

Ware SC continues to go from strength to strength with some fantastic performances at the recent County Championships. The club had 25 individual entries, the highest number in the club’s history, as well as a full set of relay teams including the Open Men’s Medley and Freestyle events.


The results were impressive with 17 individual finals, 5 relay finals, 4 bronze medals, 2 silver medals and 3 Junior Championship medals.


Sophie Tom became the most successful female club swimmer at Counties for almost 25 years, making 2 finals and securing a bronze medal in the 11 years 50m freestyle, while her older brother, Oliver, secured a 10 second PB in the 400m freestyle.


Tommy Liddiard maintained his strong form with 8 Personal Bests in 8 events, the most notable was an 8 second PB in the 200m Breaststroke. 8 is clearly his lucky number!


Billy Cyl had an excellent Championships, taking bronze medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly in the 15 year age group. He also secured 3 Junior Championships medals together with a 15 second PB in the 400IM and a significant PB in the 200IM, highlighting his ability across all 4 strokes.


The female Breaststroke swimmers all had great performances with PBs from Rachael Carpenter, Amy Liddiard and Amber Smits with some fabulous swims from Gemma Adams- Rothwell, Faye Leggett and Alice Field. However, Harry Reville stole the show with a Silver medal and regional time in the 50m Breaststroke and another Silver in the 100m Breaststroke.


The Open men’s freestyle relay team had an amazing swim, securing a place in the final where they finished 5th – a fantastic achievement. Other notable performances came from Will Charles, Macy Cyl, Harry Earl, Ellie Keeling, Jessica Hutchins, Jess Portch, Archie Rann, Amelie Street and Maxx To.


Claire Matthews, Head Coach commented, “It’s been an amazing competition and I’m incredibly proud of all our swimmers. We’ll be back in force next year so bring on 2024.”
