Ware SC continues their winning ways with the Roy Rogers Memorial Trophy, which is awarded annually to the person, team or club who has made a significant contribution to the sport of swimming.
The citation from Bryan Thompson, President of Swim England Hertfordshire read:
The award this year is being made to a club. Historically this club used to be one of the group of small clubs in the county who seemed to be much more focussed on teaching, and never really featured on anyone’s radar other than Hertfordshire Swimming League.
Over recent years however, they have come on in leaps and bounds, from getting one swimmer into County Championships, to now regularly having swimmers at both County and Regional Championships.
For a club whose coach was once told – “Well done you’ve got a swimmer into County Championships - that’s as good as it will get”, to now find itself sending multiple swimmers, winning medals AND having County Champions is amazing. In addition, the club sends swimmers onto bigger clubs, as and when necessary, for them to progress, and those swimmers can be seen to be moving on well.
Their head coach goes about her business with a quiet confidence, is always open to listening to different approaches, and willing to try different ways of doing things. This approach has undoubtedly brought results for the club.
The club’s personnel also assist at county level, with strong representation on county committees, county development camps and county team galas. It really is a club that shows determination to be involved at all levels of our sport, whilst showing a togetherness and a great team spirit.
Ware SC is only the second club to win the award since it was introduced in 1985. Adrian Bolton, Chair of Ware SC commented:
“This is a fantastic achievement that reflects all the hard work, effort and dedication across the Club. We’re incredibly pleased to win this award and I would like to thank Bryan and the entire team at the Hertfordshire Swimming League for their tireless work to promote Swimming across the County.”
